Parent Mentors Align Goals With State Performance Plan Indicators
Each year parent mentors and their district special education directors develop plans that guide family engagement activities during the upcoming year. These plans are based on district needs and they serve as a framework and roadmap for the parent mentors’ work activities. Parent mentors also use the Department of Education’s Strategic Plan goals and indicators from the Georgia State Performance Plan (SPP) which is submitted to the United States Office of Special Education Programs each year.
Once the parent mentors develop their goals, they then work with their special education directors to develop initiatives to enhance family engagement and improvement outcomes for students with disabilities. Throughout the year, parent mentors collect data on their goals and related vital behaviors. These data are reported to the Georgia Department of Education.
