--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------How Parent Mentors Work with Communities |
Parent Mentors help schools and families work together to provide jobs, recreation and promote quality of life for disabled persons in their communities. |
They work to align goals within their own school system’s special education department with the Georgia Department of Education “Georgia Performance Goals and Indicators” and the national PTA “Family Engagement Standards”. Parent Mentors are accountable. They report Project goals and activities to the Georgia Department of Education annually. |

Parent Mentors often extend their programs and activities out into the community at large through trainings, volunteering and visits with civic organizations to talk about the projects they are running in their communities. Community groups often call upon Parent Mentors to educate citizens about a variety of disability-related topics such as: general parenting issues, special education and disability awareness. |

Parent Mentors in their Communities |
On the Community page, we feature the work Parent Mentors do in their communities. We would like to hear from parents and Parent Mentors about projects initiated in their communities. Also, we want to give credit where due, to persons or organizations who have gone that extra mile to improve the living and working conditions of or acceptance of people with disabilities. |
| We welcome all input for possible inclusion here. Please, e-mail Jane Grillo. | |
